Breeding food crops that can tolerate adverse environments

Recognizing the dramatic effects that adverse weather conditions and catastrophes can have on the agricultural industry, plant scientists have focused on developing climate change-resilient species. Technological advances have enabled advanced breeding methods which allow for more direct prediction and selection of plant genes and traits.
A recently concluded seminar organized by FFTC brought 19 plant scientists from six countries to exchange information, experiences, and best practices. The formation of a formal network of researchers on this topic will facilitate accelerated and coordinated steps towards achieving desired goals in the development of stress-tolerant food crops.
